RecFest – Milaca’s Annual Bluegrass Music Festival

Central Minnesota’s RecFest features some of the region’s most noted bluegrass bands and musicians. Milaca’s Recreation Park, right on the banks of the Rum River, hosts Milaca’s annual bluegrass music festival. People come from all over just to be part of the concerts and teaching workshops. Many of the attendees bring rvs or tents, and camp in the park for the duration of the festival. The concerts are held from noon to 10 p.m. in Milaca’s historic Rec Park Bandshell. These outdoor concerts seamlessly integrate the traditional folk sounds of bluegrass with the scenic vistas of the Rum River.
Members from the bluegrass bands teach the workshops throughout the weekend. The workshops include instruction in songwriting, singing, and instrumentation. The jam sessions make up another awesome perk of RecFest. Many of the RecFest attendees bring their own instruments and play with a featured band or just hang out at their campers and jam with their neighbor.
